Amber Fernandez's academic interests focus on preparing family nurse practitioner students to deliver evidence-based primary care to adolescents and adults through the integration of advanced health assessment, clinical procedures and guideline-based disease management. As a didactic and practicum instructor, she emphasizes the development of clinical reasoning, procedural competence and the application of current evidence to support safe, effective and patient-centered care across diverse primary care settings.

Professional and Community Activities

Fernandez's professional activities focus on advancing evidence-based family nurse practitioner education while maintaining active clinical practice in a hospital-based urgent care setting. Her scholarly interests emphasize translating current clinical guidelines into primary care education, particularly in the assessment and management of adolescents and adults. She remains engaged in professional development by attending national nurse practitioner conferences to stay current with emerging evidence and best practices, which she integrates into both her teaching and clinical care. Additionally, she supports the community through the delivery of high-quality patient care and the clinical education and mentorship of future family nurse practitioners.

Honors and Awards

Although she is early in her academic career and has not yet received formal academic or teaching honors, she has nearly 19 years of experience as a practicing family nurse practitioner. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing in recognition of her academic excellence upon completion of her master's degree and remains committed to excellence in clinical practice, education and professional development.
