The University held its inaugural Leadership Academy Day on Sept. 26, attended by 34 student leaders who were nominated from programs including ROTC, Presidential Leadership Fellows and registered student organizations. The daylong event featured activities, case studies and discussions designed to strengthen students’ leadership capacity. Topics covered included resilience, work-life balance and succession planning.
“Our Leadership Academy Day gave students something a traditional leadership course often cannot. It was networking with other student leaders, a concentrated opportunity to practice leadership and it was an opportunity to actually see themselves as leaders,” said Dierdre Dixon, associate professor of management.
Leadership Academy Day was organized by faculty and staff members from Career Services, the minor in leadership studies housed in the Sykes College of Business, First Year Studies, Office of Access and Community Programs, and the Office Student Leadership and Engagement. A second Leadership Academy Day is planned for next fall.
